How do I get started? What are my next steps?
Taking the first step toward healing can feel overwhelming, but we're here to make the process simple and supportive. At Breakthrough Recovery of Colorado, we offer a structured yet flexible on-boarding process to ensure you get the right care tailored to your needs.
Step 1: Schedule Your Free Consultation
We understand that choosing the right therapist is an important decision. That’s why we offer a free, no-obligation 30-minute consultation. This is an opportunity to ask questions, explore your options, and discuss your concerns. During this call, we’ll help you determine if our approach is the right fit for you.
Step 2: Verify Insurance and Payment Options
If you plan to use insurance, we’ll need to verify your eligibility and benefits before your first session. Our team will handle this process for you, ensuring you understand what’s covered and any potential out-of-pocket costs. We also offer private pay options if you do not have or would prefer not to use insurance.
Step 3: Complete Intake Forms
Once you decide to move forward, we’ll send you a secure link from Intake Q and the Therapy Notes Provider Portal to complete the necessary intake paperwork. These forms help us better understand your background, concerns, and goals, allowing us to personalize your therapy experience.
Step 4: Schedule Your First Appointment
After completing the paperwork, we’ll schedule your first full session at a time that works for you. Whether in person or via telehealth, we’re committed to making therapy accessible and convenient.
Step 5: Begin Your Healing Journey
Your first session is all about building rapport, understanding your history, and setting goals. From there, we’ll work together to navigate your healing journey at a pace that feels right for you.
Taking this step toward change is a powerful decision, and we're honored to support you along the way. Ready to begin? Schedule your free consultation today!
Using the therapy notes client portal
Breakthrough Recovery of Colorado uses Therapy Notes as our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for all clients. Therapy Notes is a robust system that allows clients to complete intakes from the comfort of their home, bill insurance providers, and securely share documents.
The Therapy Notes Client Portal allows clients to be in control of viewing billing docs, make payments, sign treatment plans, and share confidential health information with their clinician.
You will be sent an email link to your personalized Therapy Notes Client Portal following your initial intake session.

Teletherapy sessions
Currently, we only offer online (teletherapy) for all clinical services through VSee.
We will update clients when we resume in-person sessions.
Client’s may download VSee through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or at https://my.vsee.com/download.
When ready for your session, open up the VSee application on your desktop or mobile device. You will see a GREEN bubble next to your name and my name. This will inform me that you’re ready to begin our session. I will “call” you via VSee at our scheduled session time.
If you see a RED bubble next to my name, I am currently on a call with another client and will be with you shortly.
If you see a YELLOW bubble next to my name, I am currently away from my computer, but will be on shortly.
How long before I feel better?
Many people understandably would like to know how long therapy will take to complete. There is no way to tell, as therapy encompasses a wide-variety of factors that are unique to each person and their situation. The first 5-8 sessions are generally used for building trust and rapport, gathering information, and goal planning. Some resources and coping skills are given during these initial sessions, and many people do report some relief fairly quickly.
But real change and healing tends to come during the middle phase of therapy – when our shame gremlins and fears start to come out, when we start to gain awareness and insight into how we experience and relate to the world, and where goals are being achieved.
The length of therapy depends on several factors, including the goals you would like to achieve, the layers and complexity of the issues you’re facing, and degree of observation and support in-between sessions.
In my professional experience, it tends to take clients an average of 6 months to build a solid foundation of wellness and gain some growth momentum. However, some clients, such as those seeking EMDR therapy to address traumatic memories or those with more complex mental health issues or addictions may need more time to heal.
It is your right to choose how long you want to continue your therapy. You can always pause therapy and come back at any time. Our door is always open to those in need. We will collaborate together to make sure your counseling needs are addressed once you leave therapy, and I will give you referrals to other professionals as needed.
Do you diagnose people?
Diagnoses are often short-hand for a cluster of symptoms which may or may not speak to your causes. We are trained and licensed in the State of Colorado to diagnosis mental health or substance use disorders. Those who elect to use any health insurance benefits to pay for therapy are required to have a mental health or substance use diagnosis by their insurance provider, and this information will become part of a client’s permanent health record.
However, we are more interested in you as a person and helping you reach you personal goals. Our roles are to guide through your recovery journey. Together we will explore the story of YOU and give voice to those experiences that impacted you most. This will help us gain better insight and awareness into some of the causes and roots of our present problems. Some sessions we will work on building coping skills to help you better manage stressful thoughts and feelings, while others may focus more on identifying practical solutions to implement.
What is your Therapeutic philosophy?
Our philosophy believes people have an innately powerful ability to recover and heal from any wound – physical or mental – but often get in our own way due to our insecurities and self-doubts triggering self-destructive behavioral patterns. We help clients get out of their own way by providing them with a safe container for self-expression, use a variety of different interventions to help them navigate the stormy seas of uncomfortable emotions, and help them build the tools and resources they will need to conquer those pesky inner demons that have always held us back in order to build the life and relationships they desire.
